Declutter, with Laura Thompson

Let's start with that one cupboard.

A Room Plan by video is the smallest first step.

  1. Hands-on help to sort and organise a room, a move or a whole home, in person or by video, one space at a time.
  2. A Room Plan first, if you would like one: an optional written plan by video of what to keep, donate, sell or recycle, the order to do it in, and what storage it needs.
  3. Start with a free discovery call, a first conversation to check Laura is the right help.

The cupboard under the stairs, its door open and half emptied, coats, shoes and cables part-grouped in boxes and baskets on the hall floor.

The cupboard, step by step

One space at a time: empty it, group it, decide, then give everything a place.

Example: fictional

Illustration: not Laura's work or a client's home. The cupboard stays as it is; each step shows what happens to it.

  1. The cupboard under the stairs with its contents brought out onto the hall floor. 1 Empty it Everything out, where you can see it The light on, nothing left at the back
Illustration: not Laura's work or a client's home.

    Empty it

Everything comes out of the space and onto the floor in daylight, so you can see what is really there. Nothing is decided yet.

  2. The same cupboard, its contents grouped: coats together, shoes in pairs, cables in one basket. 2 Group it Coats together Shoes in pairs Every cable, one basket
Illustration: not Laura's work or a client's home.

    Group it

Like goes with like. Seeing six umbrellas side by side makes the next step easier than finding them one at a time.

  3. The same cupboard, each group marked keep, donate, sell or recycle. 3 Decide Keep the shoes in use Donate two coats Sell the camping chair Recycle old cables
Illustration: not Laura's work or a client's home.

    Decide

Keep, donate, sell or recycle, one group at a time. Donations are bagged and labelled for a charity collection.

  4. The same cupboard, with a place marked for what is kept: hooks, a shelf for the baskets and a label. 4 Give it a place A hook for each coat A shelf for the baskets A label you will remember
Illustration: not Laura's work or a client's home.

    Give it a place

What stays goes back with a place you will remember, with simple systems and labels. On a Half Day you also get a one-page note on how to keep it this way.

Every way in, and its price

By video or in your home, from one room to a whole move.

Start small with a plan by video, or have Laura in the room with you for a half day or a whole one. For a move, she works either side of it.

In your home

Moves and whole homes

Belongings, with somewhere to belong.

Rooms organised so everything has a place you will remember.

Two situations Laura's help is made for, as examples rather than anyone's story:

  • The cupboard under the stairs that nobody opens when guests are round.

A Room Plan by video to decide what goes where, or a Half Day to sort it together.

  • A house a parent has lived in for forty years, a move in six weeks, and the family two hundred miles away arranging it by phone.

Move and Settle either side of moving day, or a whole home planned day by day.

In her own words

“a well organised environment is the foundation of success”
